The Sun Peaks Recreational Trail Association (SPRTA) is a non-profit, volunteer organisation dedicated to the development of free-to-use recreational trails in the Sun Peaks area. We are focused primarily on mountain bike trails, but also develop and maintain trails for other outdoor activities like hiking and snowshoeing. Since 2019, SPRTA has constructed 19 km of new trails in Sun Peaks for use by our community.
Our volunteers work hard and contribute hundreds of hours of trail work each year, however the size of the pedal-access trail network in Sun Peaks is starting to exceed SPRTA’s capacity to maintain it on a solely volunteer basis. To help address this, funds raised from Giving Tuesday will be used to hire a paid trail crew position in 2024 to assist with trail maintenance, building, and repairs. While funding opportunities are available for new trail construction projects, grants that will cover costs related to maintenance are rare. Fundraising is needed to help us cover this gap.
Working alongside our volunteers, a trail crew employee will enable SPRTA to open trails earlier in the season, ensure on-going maintenance and repairs are conducted throughout the summer, and complete end of season preventative maintenance – ensuring our trails remain in excellent condition for everyone in the community to enjoy.
Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving and this year it's scheduled for November 28. Tourism Sun Peaks is kindly matching all donations to this campaign up until that date, so any dollars you give will be doubled!
