A New Reality:

Since the start of our fundraising campaign last September, our beloved Ladysmith Community Marina has faced a profound and unexpected transformation. In December 2023, our attempt to secure the status quo through an injunction was denied by the Supreme Court of British Columbia. As a result, the Ladysmith Maritime Society (LMS) lost the rights to operate the Marina, a community cornerstone we've nurtured since 1985.

The Province confiscated $6 million worth of our marina assets and issued a new license to the Coast Salish Development Corporation, evicting LMS without offering any compensation for the lost assets or the $1 million in annual revenue that sustained our programs. Despite this setback, we remain resolute in our mission and are pursuing political and legal avenues to achieve just compensation. However, success in these efforts remains uncertain.

Our Current Focus:

In the face of these challenges, LMS has turned inward to strengthen and preserve the core of what makes us an invaluable part of the Ladysmith community. Our maritime programs—heritage boat restoration, harbor tours, and maritime education—continue to thrive. We've concentrated on staying visible and relevant, showcasing the resilience and spirit of our community even without our primary source of income.
