Inuit youth are facing a mental health crisis
Inuit youth in Nunavut are facing a mental health crisis. The territory has the highest suicide rate in Canada and one of the highest globally. The root causes of mental health concerns include historical and intergenerational trauma as a result of colonization and ongoing marginalization, social isolation, the loss of culture and language, as well as the impact of climate change. Young people in Nunavut told us that they urgently need greater support, social connections and resources to improve their wellbeing.
Guiding Youth To Thrive: Co-designing solutions with the community
Guided by Inuit facilitators, the Guiding Youth To Thrive (ᒪᑯᒃᑐᓂᒃ ᒪᑭᒋᐊᖅᑎᑎᓂᖅ) initiative supports youth in Nunavut through intergenerational healing, traditional knowledge, climate adaptation, and reinforcing pathways for these future leaders to tackle the challenges they face.
- “The youth in Nunavut experience intergenerational trauma, but we can help them heal, understand their history, the roots of their hurt, and the many challenges they face. They have great potential. I believe in our youth, and they deserve our support. ” – Naomi Tatty, SeeChange Intercultural Lead, Inuit leader, Nunavut
- “I am very inspired by our youth. In the past few years, there’s been this real groundswell of the younger generation that is doing a lot in terms of the wellness of our communities. So I say – carry on. Continue that and highlight the incredible wisdom, brilliance, and ingenious ways of our culture so that we can address issues from that perspective." - Siila Watt-Cloutier, acclaimed Inuit environmental and human rights advocate

Join us in supporting the well-being of young people in Nunavut.
Your donation is an investment in their future.
Together, we can create lasting change and strengthen the foundation for the next generation of Inuit leaders to thrive.
Our experience
For over five years, SeeChange has partnered with Inuit communities to combat the ongoing tuberculosis crisis in Nunavut through a holistic and trauma-informed approach, supporting training, awareness raising, and advocacy. The Guiding Youth to Thrive project builds on our experience using a community-centered approach to address the social and ecological determinants of health.
All funds raised will be directed towards programs supporting Inuit youth well-being in Nunavut. While we aim to allocate donations as described, we reserve the right to use contributions where they are needed most to further our mission of empowering youth and fostering community health in Nunavut.
