Kids' Health Links Foundation (KHLF) is a grassroots
non-profit registered charity; was incorporated in 2004. We are
recognized nationally for our four (4) Programs. These are outlined
with website links provided below. We launched our first program,
UPOPOLIS in December 2007; (our UKNOW is embedded
in UPOPOLIS); UMIND and
UPEDIA were released in 2014.
KHLF was
co-founded by Basile Papaevangelou and his daughter Christina. It was
inspired by Christina’s near death as a result of a massive blood
infection known as Toxic Shock Syndrome in 2002, and by the passing of
her good friend Katy in 2004 from cancer.
The following charter statement from the
World Health organization (WHO) best captures the
challenge faced by children around the world and the opportunity for
our Foundation’s work:
"Health is a state of complete physical, mental and
social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity."
Through the power of innovation, knowledge and communication; Our
purpose and programs help to improve the mental health and
preparedness of youth and teens, 1chronically ill hospitalized or at
home, grieving the death of a loved one or suffering from mental
health challenges.
KHLF programs reach out directly to youth and
teens (www.UPOPOLIS.com) and to front line child
life specialists dedicated to helping them deal with their hospital
experiences (www.UPEDIA.ca) and to child and youth
mental health professionals (
www.umind.ca)in helping them deal with
their illness and the stigma associated with their conditions
