I joined the Board at NEW just as COVID was beginning to impact our city. I've been so grateful to witness firsthand the incredible impact NEW's programming has in the lives of newcomer women to Toronto. We know that immigrant women are disproportionately affected by this pandemic - economically, socially, and as frontline workers. Now more than ever we need to invest in immigrant women's long-term success, and support programming that works.

Sister2Sister is a 6-month long program that helps women find their voice and become leaders in their community. It seeks to reduce social isolation and gender-based violence by building leadership skills through mutual support. $2100 covers one woman's costs, including leadership training to childcare and wraparound supports.

Please join me in sponsoring 1 woman to participate in NEW's next Sister2Sister cohort, launching January 2021. I understand there are many causes worthy of your philanthropic dollars, and that for many, giving is on pause for now. For those who can, please consider supporting newcomer women - COVID-19 has laid bare the disparities in our city, and made the need for our Sister2Sister programming even more salient.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!

When you're new to a country, you have no network,  no sense of belonging, and it means you have to renegotiate your identity for many of you.

That was Sara Asalya's experience—and she knows she's not alone. It's why she was inspired to work with Newcomer Women's Services to launch the  Sister2Sister Immigrant Women's Leadership program.

"As an immigrant woman, I experienced firsthand the challenges and struggles many newcomers face when they start a new life from scratch," explains Sara. "I envisioned a program that would create a safe space for immigrant women, regardless of their immigration status, to  feel connected and empowered."

The program was launched last fall, and it changed the lives of 20 women. One participant,  Leila Naderi, said the program offered her "hope, support and connectivity."

OUR GOAL

We want to offer that same life-changing experience to 21 women in January 2021.
To do that, we need to raise $44,100 to fund the program.

HOW CAN YOU  HELP?

1. Make a donation of your choice to our #Project21x21 campaign.

2. Create a #Project21x21 team and raise $2,100. (That’s the cost to sponsor one woman for the program.)

3. Become a #Project21x21 Patron by individually sponsoring a woman for $2,100.

WHY IS THIS PROGRAM ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT NOW?

COVID-19 has been hard on vulnerable populations, including women. The challenges are compounded for newcomers as they adapt to their new home, learn English, and find meaningful work.

By supporting the #Project21x21, you’re helping immigrant women become self-advocates, engaged citizens and future leaders.

Thank you for your support.
